Team Challenge Logo2014 is the year to be a faster stronger, and more healthy you!

Well… it’s now the middle of February and if you are anything like me, you are wondering where the last month and a half has gone, and realizing that you are falling behind on all your fitness goals. But it’s not to late to check in, or get started, on your 2014 resolutions and admit that you may need a little help from your friends.

Call it motivation. Call it competition. Call it accountability. Running with a group, or signing up for a spring race with my friends, has always been my fail safe to sticking to my fitness goals. If I have a group waiting for me, or an event around the corner, I HAVE to get my butt off the couch!

This year my friends, and I, are running the Marin County Half Marathon, 5K & 10K. The Team Challenge for Charity is the perfect opportunity to invite all of our friends, family and co-workers to join us in our 2014 fitness goals. Not only do we each receive $5 off of our race registration, but we have the opportunity to win up to $1000 for our charity of choice.

As we build our Team, we can also earn cool prizes, like our team name printed on our event shirt and a team VIP tent on race day. Our Team earns points for every registered participant and race day volunteer. We also can earn extra points through fundraising and placing in our age group. –Find all of the rules for the Team Challenge here.

Starting a Team is simple.

  • Go to www.marinmarathon.com.
  • Click the ‘Register’ button.
  • Choose your race distance and select ‘team.’
  • If you are the first one to register, you will ‘create a team’ and need to enter the name of your group.
  • If you are joining a team, find the name and continue.
  • Next, rally your fellow runners, family, friends and co-workers to join in on the fun!

If you have already signed up as an individual, and would like to create, or join a team, contact Hope Gelbach at hope@sustainablesports.org.

Here’s to a safe and happy training season, and good luck on reaching those New Year’s resolutions. See you all in April!
